Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description

A silver metal and epoxied device 1 1/4 inch (3.18cm) in width consisting of a representation of the Gateway Arch superimposed by a cross with arms colored, clockwise from top, maroon, blue, white and red; surmounted in the center of the cross, a green snake, tongue red, entwined around a rod with a star on the pommel, all gold. Attached at the base of the arch, a maroon scroll inscribed VITAS SERVARE in silver.



Symbolism

Maroon is a traditional color of the Army Medical Department. Silver alludes to the tools of the medical profession. The cross symbolizes the medical heritage and mission of the 811th Hospital Center. The snake and rod are symbols of health care and the star denotes guidance from the Hospital Centers leadership. The arch represents thehospitals location and the gateway to a skill rich, lifesaving force. Themotto VITAS SERVARE translates to To Save Lives.
